The municipality of Larvik is now doing more to honour the name of Thor Heyerdahl. During the course of a three year project we will strengthen the ties between Thor Heyerdahls name and Larvik so that the town becomes known as his hometown both in Norway and around the world. We will create new attractions and experiences based on core values such as innovation, adventurousness and sincerity.

Tigris was the name of the papyrus boat used by Thor Heyerdahl and his crew on their expedition in the Orient in 1978-79.  the boat was 18m long and 6 meters wide.  The goal of the voyage was to shed some light on the trade methods and routes used in Mesepotamia and harbours in the region from time immemorial .
