The municipality of Larvik is now doing more to honour the name of Thor Heyerdahl. During the course of a three year project we will strengthen the ties between Thor Heyerdahls name and Larvik so that the town becomes known as his hometown both in Norway and around the world. We will create new attractions and experiences based on core values such as innovation, adventurousness and sincerity.

Ra II was the name of the papyrus boat Thor Heyerdahl and his crew used to sail from Marocco to Barbados with.  After failing at his initial attempt with Ra, Thor Heyerdahal decided to try again.  He built a new vessel and set out from Marocco on the 17th of May 1970.
