The municipality of Larvik is now doing more to honour the name of Thor Heyerdahl. During the course of a three year project we will strengthen the ties between Thor Heyerdahls name and Larvik so that the town becomes known as his hometown both in Norway and around the world. We will create new attractions and experiences based on core values such as innovation, adventurousness and sincerity.
On the 17th of May 2007, it was made known that the Municipality of Larvik had bought Thor Heyerdahl’s childhood home for the sum of 4,7 million kroner. This is an important part of the town’s campaign to bring Thor Heyerdahl home and it will be a part of a project known as ‘Heyerdahl-byen’.
